Wondering how to play baseball darts and the different rules? Darts is a traditional game that you would normally find people playing in pubs, clubs and bars. Today though, it is no longer a pub sport and is today popular the world over. Darts is simply enjoyable and fun. It does not matter what age or gender you are; it is a sociable game. It might be surprising to know that there are some benefits of playing darts.
About Baseball Darts
Darts has it’s rooted in archery. As far as any historian is concerned javelins, crossbow bolts and archery are all considered to be a form of darts.
History has it that dart began as a contest between two soldiers. The soldiers threw short spears in upturned wine barrels. Momentarily the game gained much popularity. However, when winter came around the sport had to be taken indoors where indoor rules had to be adopted.
Baseball darts is one of the most popular varieties of darts. It uses the same rules as in baseball. The dartboard is divided into sections which include strikes, balls, hits and outs.
The dashboard has nine innings just like the standard baseball. Therefore all a player will need is the basic knowledge of playing baseball.
How to play baseball darts?
So what are the basic baseball darts rules that you need to learn? The game is very similar to the actual baseball. Thus there is no limit in the number of players, but on most occasions, a team is made up of even players usually 9.
The rules of play are very simple. As a player, you have to try and score as many scores per inning as you can. Thus the number of innings determines the number of runs which you will have. For instance, if the first inning you only score 1, then it means you only have a single run.
The player with nine innings has the most runs automatically wins. Just like real baseball if there is a tie, there will be extra innings until there is a winner.
Here is a look at how you can have fun with the game and some of the rules that are required while playing baseball darts. You should bookmark them so that the next time you catch with your clique, you can have something fun to play.
Know the numbers.
Baseball darts can be played between two individuals or teams with nine members each. The game requires you begin with a scorecard of 9 innings. One row represents the total number of scores. The column represents the total number of players who are involved in the game.
To determine which player will play first you can all throw the darts. The player who is closest to the bull plays first while the player furthest from the bull plays last in that order. If a player throws the dart on a home run circle, they can then determine which team to join.
What do you need to do?
The dartboard is normally divided into 20 in the form of a wedge. Each wedge represents the numerical value of each score. Thus while you are playing during a particular inning, your dart has to fall into that inning.
However, if you throw a dart and it does not fall into a particular inning then you lose points in that inning.
As said earlier in baseball darts the points which you score in each inning determine the number of runs. For instance, if you throw a dart and it falls on the outer ring also known as the double ring, then you have two runs. However, if you throw a dart and it neither falls on the wedges, then you only have a single run. The run determines the score.
Have a look at this. If in the first throw your dart hit the double ring, then the second throw it hit the triple ring and the third throw it hit between the wedge then your score will be 2+3+1=6
Therefore it is good to note that:
- The number of runs determines the number of scores.
- If you throw the darts in case it goes out of a section, the score will be counted as zero.
- The dartboard should be placed in a well-lit room.
The objective of this game is to ensure that your score has the most runs per inning. However, you have to ensure that you do not throw outside a specific inning which you are playing.
How do you win baseball darts?
Every player has a turn where a score is added. Once you have played to the ninth inning, the player with the most runs wins.
However, it is not all the time that the game runs smoothly. There are times when there is a twist added at the 7th inning also known as the “7th added stretch“. This occurs when a player fails to throw a dart in the 7th section thus all their total scores are cut by half.
This easily leads to a low score. It might sound frustrating, but the main aim of this is to add a bit more tension to the game.
On other occasions, there is a tie after the 9th inning. Thus to break the tie an extra inning is included. During League Play a handicap baseball dart is included.
It involves taking 80% total score difference in the scores of the two teams. Then, that 80% is given to the lesser team. For instance, if your team has a missing player during League Play, then your team will receive 80% of the average.
Where is the game popular?
Baseball darts is popular around the world, but it is mostly played in the US, Australia and Europe. It is also referred to as American darts, and you can play it both at home and at the club.
